The Terre del Rubicone has a surface area of approximately 230 km² and a population of about 33,200 inhabitants spread over 6 county boroughs: Borghi, Longiano, Montiano, Roncofreddo, Savignano sul Rubicone and Sogliano al Rubicone. This area situated at the southern most point of the Province of Forlì- Cesena, on the border of the Rimini province and the Region of the Marches.
The boroughs of Borghi, Roncofreddo and Sogliano al Rubicone cover the hillier areas of the region and include, to the far West, the peaks of Mount Perticara (883m), Mount Fagnano (470m) to the East of the river Uso, and Mount Aquilone (1355m).
From Longiano the land descends gradually towards the Via Emilia, the famous historical road that divides the hills from the lowlands, and then continues as far as the sea and the thin strip of territory that makes up Savignano mare.
There are lots of waterways that criss cross the region: the Urgon, the Pisciatello, the Fiumicino, the Uso, the Rio Salto and the Rio Medrina. The rivers and streams are an integral part of the foothill landscape that itself is dotted with small, ancient villages rising above the breathtaking mountainous ridges that were conquered by the Villanovan civilization. The water is of utmost importance for the area’s agricultural economy and the famous dispute over the position of the historical Rubicone River, navigated by Julius Caesar in 49AD and that once marked the border between Cisalpine Gaul and Rome, continues to this day.
